What is long coffee?

Long coffee is a type of coffee that is made by adding more water to a regular shot of espresso. The result is a milder, less concentrated coffee with a larger volume. This process can be achieved by either extending the extraction time of the espresso shot or by adding hot water to the shot. Long coffee is also known as Americano, which originated during World War II when American soldiers stationed in Italy would add hot water to their espresso shots to make it more similar to the coffee they drank back home. Long coffee is usually served in a larger cup and can be enjoyed black or with added milk or sugar. It is a popular choice for those who prefer a less intense coffee flavor but still want the benefits of a caffeine kick.
